After all, Java really isn't that bad of a language! The bottom line is this. I've learned more languages than I can recall. Ultimately, Java won on marketing spend, so I'm not saying it's the best we could have, but rather, that it's just a tool and a bit of an arbitrary one. If Alan Kay had such great ideas, we'd probably still have smalltalk around, or I'd see advertising for Squeal jobs.
