Web Reference: Jul 23, 2025 ยท The C typedef keyword is used to redefine the name of already existing data types. When names of datatypes become difficult to use in programs, typedef is used with user-defined datatypes, which behave similarly to defining an alias for commands. Updating the using keyword was specifically for templates, and (as was pointed out in the accepted answer) when you are working with non-templates using and typedef are mechanically identical, so the choice is totally up to the programmer on the grounds of readability and communication of intent. It is up to you whether you want to use typedef or not. Your code will work the same without it. However, in modern C it is often used to make code shorter, clearer, and easier to maintain.
