Web Reference: The Java War of 1741 to 1743 was an armed struggle by a joint Chinese and Javanese army against the Dutch East India Company and pro-Dutch Javanese that took place in central and eastern Java. Javanese court itself fell to two armies in succession. While the events of this period can be described in detail from the archives of the VOC, it is a Javanese court chronicle which makes it possible to analyse the internal crisis which underlay the collapse of the court of Kartasura. The conflicts included the Second Javanese War of Succession, which erupted after Pakubuwono I's death in 1719, and the Third War, instigated by Pakubuwono II's agreement to cede his kingdom to the Dutch shortly before his death.
