Aug 18, 2025 · The story isn’t “sysadmins are dead” or “DevOps is over.” It’s that tech keeps evolving. Each generation of IT role stands on the shoulders of the last. Sysadmins taught us resilience. I made the shift from support to SysAdmin to Automation to DevOps to Platform Engineering (over 20 years). It was a progression that I enjoyed. Also, if you get through training and their form of DevOps isn't quite right for you, look for other DevOps jobs that would be a good fit.
