If your application must obtain character input from the user, include the TranslateMessage function in the loop. TranslateMessage translates virtual-key messages into character messages. A programmer makes the process do that by writing a loop that calls GetMessage (which blocks for a message and retrieves it), and then calls DispatchMessage (which dispatches the message), and repeats indefinitely. This is the message loop. At any rate, if you want to create (and pump) a windows message loop on a background thread, you can do it using the WPF dispatcher class - call System.Windows.Threading.Dispatcher.Run() from a background thread.
