Web Reference: The C++ language is more complex than the C language, but from a performance point of view there shouldn't be a notable difference in either way. Some C++ constructs are faster than the C equivalent (std::sort is faster than qsort) and there are probably good examples of the other way around. My question is if anyone here has any experience with simplistic benchmarking and could tell me which things to test for in order to get a simple idea of each language's general performance? Apart from compilation time, execution speed and straight-forward machine instruction generation and what are the things that make C++ feel like a downgrade from C? (It could be a renowned question, but I'm really curious as to what you guys have to say)
