A function that performs such self-calling behavior is known as a recursive function, and each instance of the function calling itself is called a recursive call. The recursion continues until some condition is met to prevent it. To prevent infinite recursion, if...else statement(or similar approach) can be used where one branch makes the recursive call, and other doesn't. Recursion is the technique of making a function call itself. This technique provides a way to break complicated problems down into simple problems which are easier to solve.
