I am trying to find an elegant way to "flatten" this array such that elements that are (2) get expanded out into root-level elements. Each element that is an array is “flattened” (that is, replaced by its individual array elements). Each element that is not an array is unchanged (even if the element is an object that has instance method flatten). Returns a new array that is a one-dimensional flattening of self (recursively). That is, for every element that is an array, extract its elements into the new array. The optional level argument determines the level of recursion to flatten.
