The process with the highest priority is selected for execution first. Maximize throughput (operations/jobs per second) Minimize overhead (e.g. context switching) Use system resources efficiently (CPU, memory, disk, etc) Fairness and proportionality Share CPU in some equitable way, or that meets users’ expectations Everyone makes some progress; no one starves Each process is assigned a priority. Process with highest priority is to be executed first and so on. Processes with same priority are executed on first come first served basis. Priority can be decided based on memory requirements, time requirements or any other resource requirement.
