Ruby Bridges was the first African American child to attend a formerly all-white school in New Orleans in 1960. She faced threats, violence, and isolation, but also received support from federal marshals, teachers, and other parents. Ruby Bridges has always been a civil rights advocate, with her experience as the first Black child to enter an all-white school in the South making her a household name.
