Web Reference: Carl Gustav Jacob Jacobi[a] (/ dʒəˈkoʊbi /; [3] German: [jaˈkoːbi]; 10 December 1804 – 18 February 1851) was a German mathematician who made fundamental contributions to elliptic functions, dynamics, differential equations, determinants and number theory. Feb 14, 2026 · Carl Jacobi was a German mathematician who, with Niels Henrik Abel of Norway, founded the theory of elliptic functions. Jacobi was first tutored by an uncle, and, by the end of his first year at the Gymnasium (1816–17), he was ready to enter the University of Berlin. Carl Jacobi made basic contributions to the theory of elliptic functions. He carried out important research in partial differential equations of the first order and applied them to the differential equations of dynamics.
