Web Reference: Earl Henry Hamner Jr. (July 10, 1923 – March 24, 2016) was an American television writer and producer (sometimes credited as Earl Hamner), best known for his work in the 1970s and 1980s as the creator of two long-running series, The Waltons and Falcon Crest. In the early 1900s, the Hamner family moved from its James River tobacco farm to the town of Schuyler -- named for its first postmaster -- on the eastern slope of the Blue Ridge. Today it is home to "The Gathering," a group of disciples of the psychic Edgar Cayce. Jul 27, 2022 · Born in Nelson County, Hamner served in the Army during World War II (1939–1945) before attending Northwestern University and the University of Cincinnati. He then worked in radio and television, writing scripts for The Twilight Zone and novels based on his Virginia upbringing.
